The control which changes the loudness of a division of an organ. The ranks of pipes may be enclosed in a swell box whose front wall comprises shutters or palettes operating vertically or horizontally in a manner resembling a venetian blind, to control the volume of sound which escapes the box. The palettes are usually controlled using a rocker pedal.
In a traditional organ, often only one division of the organ is controlled in this way. In a Cinema organ usually all divisions are.
