The Pickstock Bequest
Dear volunteers and members of the museum,
As you know, the Musical Museum relies entirely on public donations, visitor admission fees and commercial activities such as our concerts to raise revenue to preserve our collections for the benefit of future generations. We are eternally grateful to all of our visitors and benefactors, who contribute towards keeping us alive.
In that regard, I am delighted to announce that the Musical Museum has recently received a significant bequest from the estate of the late Mr George Pickstock. Mr and Mrs Pickstock were regular attendees of organ concerts, as well as generous supporters and advocates of the Museum from when it was based in St. George’s Church.
The Museum’s charity has received a substantial donation of £160,000 from Mr Pickstock’s estate, his wife having predeceased him some years ago. Although I did not know the Pickstock family personally, I am certain they would be pleased that their generous bequest will be used to help and support the Museum’s recovery plan, and will make a dramatic contribution towards our chance of success.
I must stress that although this is an incredibly generous donation, it does not solve our financial challenge. Already, some £60,000 has needed to be ringfenced by the Board of Directors to address critical areas where the Museum requires investment – for example replacing our old IT equipment, recruiting a Business Development Manager to drive the long-term sustainable growth that we need from our commercial activities and a boiler in urgent need of repair. I’m pleased to say the earmarked funds also includes provision for the production and publication of a new book on our Mighty Wurlitzer. This is a substantial exercise which will not only raise money for the Museum, but will also be a fitting tribute to the Pickstock’s generosity.
As always, there is more to do. We must continue to work together and focus on the very real need to bring in more income over the long term, and more funds are needed to secure the Museum’s future. If you would also like to discuss leaving a lasting legacy to support the Musical Museum, however large or small, please get in touch.
With best wishes
