This grand piano, was made by the American firm Ampico with the brand Chickering and is reputed to be the very last instrument fitted (to special order) with the Ampico reproducing system. Its smaller size reflects the changing fashion for smaller rooms.


Piano with built-in player; pneumatic, paper roll, capable of reproducing an actual performance by a named pianist with the original tempo and dynamic.

Pneumatic player piano system.

Special Ampico reproducing piano rolls “A” or “B” using the 98 hole tracker bar.

This piano was imported from Seattle in 1979, and cost the Museum the then huge sum of £7,540. including shipping and VAT
